Happy New Year....

Okay, so I realized we are almost in the THIRD month of 2012 but Hey with my hectic schedule, I couldn't post in January, OR February for that matter since tomorrow is a leap year.
I have received a lot of Thank You's for starting this blog.....And well...You're welcome! I enjoy blogging about things that I love...Greek, my relationship/family, and my journey of being a successful Opera Singer. These last few months have been a whirlwind with a lot of things going on, (all FAN-TAB-U-LOUS things of course) and I didn't have any time to write any new Greek postings lately. Glad you guys are enjoying the subjects and for the FIRST TIME EVER, if you would like for me to blog about something individually,,,, please respond to THIS post by submitting a reply asking me, and if there is enough interest around that topic, I will post about it. Since this blog had been up three years ago, I have received almost 600 Thousand hits!!!! YAY!!! So apparently there are a ton of people out there who want to learn about BGLO's.......So I am thrilled I can provide you with as much info as I can.

As I stated before, this blog is VERY general and does not explicitly target one organization, but ALL! Every org has their own "specific" requirements that you must have, and as always I recommend that you visit their national website for the requirements...

In the meantime be on the lookout for more posts.....I know it's that time of year again,,,,, RUSH, Interviews, Packets, etc....so I wish you all MANY blessings as you prepare for this journey, and when you make it, please let me know. I would LOVE to hear from you! Since starting this blog three years ago, I have seen 218 people cross into Greekland! *You know who are, and CONGRATS again*

Ciao for now!

  1. I would like to know how you can put together the perfect RUSH packet, what key things must you add to your packet to make you stand out! For example one site suggested adding a photo, I don't know if that's a good idea. :) But what other key ways would you suggest??

Also once you get accepted, I know and understand that now the real work begins, but what really takes place after you are accepted into your organization of choice.

For me I would be seeking membership in an Grad Chapter what ways should I stand out during Rush?? I understand that the rush for undergrad is quite different from a grad chapter’s rush.

I know I am asking so many questions, but I am prepared and ready!!

  2. First I'd just like to say thank you for the blog. I really can't think of very many questions to have you blog on as your site has really gone into just about everything-it's been a great tool for me to utilize and I thank you for that.
I do have one question that I would like to pose and possible have you blog about: What is a "Really" good answer for the question of "Why my organization" or "Why do you want to be a ____?"
Of course this is a common question for anyone wanting to join and organization or even get a job for that matter but I find quite interesting how some people respond to certain answers. I find the question akin to asking me why I chose to purchase my house in a certain area or even marry my husband. The answer is simple to me because after careful research it just felt right and that is what I was lead to. Of course all of the 4 Pan Hellanic sororities focus on community service and the betterment of our society but only one of them is right for me. I could give other reasons but when you boil it down that's really it.

Thank you for the opportunity to pose my question.

  3. I have questions about the interview, is it possible for members that you know in the organization can interview for you on your behalf??? Also would it be a good idea to give everyone on panel a thank you note or a little note of interest? Lastly I know this is always asked, when panel asks you if you have any questions, should you or should you not ask questions. If so, what types of questions should you ask that can make you stand out????

  4. I have been preparing my rush packet for several months now, however I am not sure if my packet will stand out from the other girls that I'm competing with. Is it possible for you to review/critique my packet? Can you blog about how to prepare a perfect membership application/rush packet?

  5. I will be transferring to another four-year university this fall, in August 2012. I have always wanted to pledge and I hope to have the opportunity in undergrad. What ways can I make myself stand out as a transfer student. Also, what can I do this summer to make my application stand out even more?

  6. Thanks for creating your blog. idk how many males read your blog but i do faithfully. Your info and insight is universal and i can definitely apply all the advice you've given. I recently graduated from school and made the decision that i would pursue membership into an certain fraternity. The only problem is that i will be relocating to another area of the country for graduate school. Some questions i had were how to properly contact the organization of your interest and how to make new contacts in the area and can your old contacts vouch for you in any way? Thanks in advance and i look forward to your blog...

  7. Ideas for Transfer students. For some of us it might be hard to be in leadership positions for clubs and student government, but is the fact that we are still involved helpful?

Also, is it looked down if you have a child and are still trying to become a part of a sorority? I've been interested before I had her, and now that I do, it only fuels me more so she has an understanding of collective action and is surrounded by the ideas of community service.

    1. I know I do not write this blog, but I just wanted to make a comment on your question, it would be a dis-service for any sorority to look down upon you because you have a child. Hopefully the sorority of your interest would not hold anything against because we are all human!

    2. Thank you! I didn't know if people would think that I "should spend more time with my daughter" and so forth.

  10. I just was wondering if you could give advice on how to "not stress" during the "waiting process". Long story short, I went to rush, had the interview, now I'm waiting....of course I have school work, and work, but my mind is always on this!! Any advice?

One more question (LOL!).....I feel like I did very badly on my interview. I was super nervous!!! Yes, I answered every question, but I felt I made no sense, and I feel like I've failed myself and should expect a rejection letter!! =( Do some IG's do badly/super nervous in interviews and still receive an invitation to membership? The members know who I am, and I feel my packet is pretty darn good...

  11. I recently transferred to a different university and I have been attending all of the events held by the sorority I want to join. By attending events Im sure that they know that Im interested but Im really shy and I have a hard time talking to them one on one. They seem like they are very nice women but Im a little bit intimidated by them. I want to get to know them but I dont know how to start up conversations with them. How do I break out of my shell? How do I get them to notice me?

You have a great blog. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

  12. I have a question about discretion. How are you supposed to get to know the members of the chapter on campus if you aren't supposed to let anyone know that you plan to apply for membership?

  13. I have a few questions. Fist of all, this is my first time reading your blog and I do appreciate your insights as they can be applied to any organization both male and female have interests in!! My questions are about hazing. Although I have read plenty of the negativity that goes on in sororities during their intake process and I did read your blog about hazing and what you recommend we as individuals do, which is to say NO, why is it considered "skating" for the one's who chose not to go through hazing and also be disowned sort-of-speak by the organization that decided to cross you? Would hazing not be a contradiction to what every BGLO organization say they stand for? I guess my biggest question would be why would i have to go through a punishment of hazing just to be apart of an organization i'm suppose to be positively adding to? I do understand putting the RUSH line to the test to see if they are worthy of the GREEK LETTER's but putting your hands or mentally tearing an adult/young adult down to figure that out to me seems reasonable enough for me to continue to not be apart of any org. at all. These are questions because I am very confused after receiving answers from actual GREEK women from different chapters. Thanks for your time in reading and hopefully answering this.

  14. This blog is amazing! I am thankful that you took the time to create this. I am the first person to ever go to college, so I wasn't sure what the dos and don'ts are. I do now! I hope to call you sistergreek soon! I am applying for Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority inc, and this blog has been so helpful. what I love about it is, it applies to ALL BLGOS not just your organization. I am so thankful for that! Maybe I will create a blog for myself when I cross over.
